Counselling When You're Grieving
When someone you care about dies, you're not "just" grieving the person you lost, but so much more. There may be a future you thought you would have, plans that were supposed to happen, a role or identity that has changed, or a sense of certainty about how life was going to unfold. Everyday routines and relationships can take on a different meaning. All of these pieces are part of the loss too, and are why grief can feel so all-encompassing.
Grief doesn’t follow a set timeline, and the passing of time doesn’t necessarily mean you stop feeling the impact of what happened. It may become quieter for a while and then feel closer again around a milestone, an anniversary, a change in your life, or for no obvious reason at all. Over time, grief does change but does very much remain present. Finding ways to live alongside a loss doesn’t mean leaving the grief behind, living with it instead. Easier said than done. I know.
